If Yer a Tarheel Driver

Sung to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It"

If ya lift it in a corner
You might spin
If you lift it in a corner
You might spin
If ya lift it in a corner
You can count yourself a goner
So you better keep you flippin'
Right foot in.

If ya turn when ya brakes
That's a sin
If ya turn when ya brakes
That's a sin
If ya turn when ya brakes
The whole damn car rotates
And yer view of where yer goin's
Where ya been.

If ya cross yer arms while steerin'
You'll confess
If ya cross yer arms while steerin'
You'll confess
If ya cross yer arms while steerin'
The words ya might be hearin'
Are "damn, how'd I get in
Such as mess?"

If yer a Tarheel driver
Clap real loud
If yer a Tarheel driver
Clap real loud
'Cause if yer a Tarheel driver
We know yer a survivor
All those dumb mistakes,
That's not allowed.

If yer a Tarheel driver
Stomp yer feet
If yer a Tarheel driver
Stomp yer feet
'Cause if yer a Tarheel driver
We know you'd bet a fiver
That Tarheel Sports Car Club
Cannot be beat!

We Are Tarheels

Sung to the tune of "My Country 'Tis of Thee"

We've all come here today
With our sports cars to play
And get our thrills.
The course looks really fast.
We're gonna have a blast.
Drive like each run could be our last.
We are Tarheels.

We'll all have so much fun.
Drive like hell every run.
How good it feels.
And if we start to spin,
We'll just put on a grin
Then neatly tuck it right back in;
We are Tarheels.

And when this day is through
We'll have a nice cold brew;
How good it feels.
Remember with great pride
That most fantastic ride
That cast all doubts aside
We are Tarheels.

Yes, when this day is past
We'll remember to the last
How good it feels.
To've pushed hard on the gas.
To have gone really fast.
To've really kicked some ass!
We are Tarheels.

My Money's Always on Tarheels

Sung to the tune of "Camptown Races"

Tarheel drivers have good times,
Doo-dah, Doo-dah.
Tarheel drivers drive the line,
Oh, de doo-dah day.
They're born to drive real hard.
They're trained to go real fast.
And other clubs are gettin' tard
Of Tarheels kickin' ass.

Chorus:
Oh, de doo-dah-dee.
Oh, de doo-dah-day.
My money's always on Tarheels;
Those folks are always bad!

Tarheel drivers have more fun,
Doo-dah, Doo-dah.
They give it hell on every run.
Oh, de doo-dah day.
They're trained to drive real smooth.
They're trained to drive real good.
But most of all they're trained to say,
"Thank you for the wood."

Chorus:
Who'll bet on CCR?
Who'll bet on Triad?
My money's always on Tarheels;
Those folks are always bad!

The Heel of the Month Award was started in 1993 to honor one or more THSCC members each month for his/her recent outstanding driving or for recognition of some special or notable action recently performed either within the club or outside of the club. Each monthly recipient would put his or her special "mark" on the Heel and returns it at the next monthly meeting for presentation to the next recipient. At the club's year-end party, the decorated Heel was awarded for keeps to a recipient deemed especially deserving of the award. From 1993 until his death in 2002, long-time THSCC member Gene Miller made a new award each year. For a period of time since 1993, long-time member Neal (Neal Bob) Harrington still wired its flashing toes. More recently Rodney White has been designing the Heel of the Year award. As of 2023, each heel of the month receives a THSCC keychain.

The Bowie Gray Service Award was first given in 1994 at Tarheel Sports Car Club's 30th Anniversary Party. The Award honors the long-time contributions of one of THSCC's founders and still club Treasurer, Bowie Gray, Sr. of Wilson, NC. As was only fitting, the first recipient of the Award was none other than Bowie Gray, Sr. himself. The Award continues to be presented periodically and as appropriate to club members in recognition of outstanding service to THSCC over an extended period of time.

Later that same day, Tom posted the two pages to his personal web space on his employer's web server and THSCC entered cyberspace!

Autocross Information

THSCC conducts its own Autocross championship series. THSCC is also a sponsoring club of the
North Carolina Autocross Championship series. In 1996, two THSCC will host two NCAC events.

THSCC's Autocross Champoinship series rules are based on the current SCCA Solo II rules. In addition to the classes defined by the SCCA, we have a special "Street Tire" class. (We define a "street tire" as any DOT-approved tire that has a treadwear rating of 140 or greater.) The PAX index is used to adjust times between cars that would normally compete in different Solo II classes.

BFG/Car Guys/NCAC Autocross at Laurinburg/Maxton Airport, March 31

The second stop on the THSCC autocross championship trail is also the second NCAC autocross of 1996. The course is laid out on the concrete runways and taxiways of a WWII air base. Popular with the high-horsepower crowd, but a real hoot no matter what you drive, this site really challenges the driver's car control skills.

Sponsors for the NCAC series are B.F. Goodrich Tires Team T/A and Car Guys On-Track Driver Education. Click here for directions to the site.

The fourth THSCC autocross of 1996 is also the fifth leg of the NCAC series. The same course will be used on both Saturday and Sunday, and scoring is based on your best run of the entire weekend. Though some will chose to run only one day, you'll have more fun if you participate both days. You'll have even more fun if you come to the world-renowned Saturday night pool party !

For the 10th year, we head east to Murfreesboro, where it's just as hot as any other place in the state, with the possible exception of Laurinburg. This is the fifth event of the THSCC Autocross Championship. Baseball fans will be pleased to know that Ahoskie, NC, home of Catfish Hunter, is only 5 miles away. Autocross at Morrisville, NC, August 11

THSCC autocross #6 is a 'parking lot' event, held at the Belk-Leggett Distribution Center in Morrisville, NC, not too far from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Although the site is not nearly as large as our airport sites, you will be amazed at what our talented course designers can devise! It's a great place to start autocrossing. Eighth Annual Wilson Invitational Autocross, September 15

This is our famous street autocross, sponsored by the Wilson Downtown Development Corporation. Since this event is conducted on city streets, please note:
  • This is an invitational event. The invitation list is comprised of drivers who have run the event in the past, or have competed in previous THSCC events. Drivers must have 2 years of autocross experience, or have completed 2 Car Guys driving schools.
  • We request that all vehicles have some kind of muffling device. There is no DB limit, but please be reasonable. With several churches in the area, we must be good neighbors.
  • Drive within your limits. Off-course excursions are strongly discouraged.
  • This is NOT a THSCC championship points event!

Autocross at Morrisville, NC, October 6

In October we return to the Belk-Leggett Distribution Center in Morrisville, NC, for our 7th championship autocross. With the season winding down, the THSCC regulars will be duking (or 'Tarheeling') it out for end-of-season championship trophy points, ensuring some intense competition. This event always seems to attract a large number of novices. If you haven't autocrossed before and want to give it a try, or if you just want to sit on the bank and spectate, this is a great opportunity! Click here for directions to the site.
