EDIT:

Well, after receiving my pay increase for the year and looking at other money factors, it makes zero sense to sell this BMW. Maybe I can pull the trigger on something next year, but for now, this will have to stay at the house with me. Also have to admit with this great weather, it was fun driving it home today with the top down...

We've already had that discussion... I like that car too much to let it go. Just need to stay on top of the maintenance on her ride...

I'm toying with the idea to sell the wife's e39 525iT to get a 540 or an e91. The 525 is too gutless to the point the wife even complains about it. I'm leaning toward a 540 now, but it's good to know you've had a good experience with your e91. We did some used car lot strolls and she was not impressed with the seemingly less cargo room.

The lack of power was one reason why I sold my 525, but I don't want the 540 issues. I'd seriously look at one of the e91s. Yes, it's a bit smaller in regard to cargo space, but do you actually use all of it? I've found the room in the back is more than adequate for our needs. What I like is there is actually more leg room for both the front and rear passengers in the e91 over the e39. I think you owe it to yourself to at least check it out. You're more than welcome to come give mine a once over if you like. The e91 is one of the better driving cars I've owned even in stock form and the 230hp from that n52 motor is provides plenty of ummph for the car....

Yeah I should put some effort into having the wife drive an e91, but on the other hand I should just wait for you to spend lots of money on maintenance of your e91 and then decide to sell it. :)

There's probably a sad bit of truth in that statement. Pam's e91 and my e88 are both at ~90k miles. I've done coils and plugs on both along with the serpentine belt. I've also done the OFHG on her car AND one of the head bolts that has a high failure rate due from over torquing. The one thing I'm dreading on this car is the water pump, but they have the kits that cover everything now. This failure doesn't seem as prevalent on n52 motors as it is on the n54/55 motors. Aside from that, these should be ok to maintain. I went into buying these knowing of the soft spots.

I'd try to get her to at least try out the 328 wagon. She may change her mind. I've asked Pam about trading hers for something else and right now she says she'd rather keep the wagon...

You guys are whining about lack of power with a inline 6 and I daily drive a 3 cylinder Focus, lol. My car literally takes over 9 seconds to get to 60mph. The Miata feels like a rocket by comparison.
