1985 ½ Porsche 944 with 5.7l V8 conversion - 300+ HP - $3000Decided to give up on my project car and move on to other things -- This is a really neat and FAST car that runs and drives, and makes lots of power and GREAT sound, but needs some work. 1985 1/2 Porsche 944 (the good one with the improved interior) in Guards Red and black interior with 148k miles, and conversion to an engine from a 1995 Camaro (5.7l LT1 V8) (30k miles since rebuild). Probably makes 340+ HP. Mostly original except for the swap. Interior is pretty nice, with recovered front seats. Dash is cracked (coverlay included).
The car is drive-able but not really complete. I picked this up as a project from the prior owner who did thconversion, and I have taken it further, but it needs some TLC and some additional work to make it really road-worthy. I have only driven it short distances (it’s not registered or inspected) so I would recommend you bring a trailer. It’s an intense driving experience - manual steering and brakes, and the front end is a bit loose and in need of a rebuild, so it’s a handful on the road. It’s an old car in need of some more TLC. See the full good and bad list below.
About the conversion -- All the right parts were used in the swap - Sanderson headers, custom free-flowing exhaust, new optispark, new alternator, new oil pump, Painless wiring harness, Quicktime bellhousing adapter, custom oil pan, custom engine uprights. Plenty of spares are included - spare steering rack, spare torque, v8 swap manuals, Lindsey Racing solid trans-axle mount
Clean title in hand. In Cary, NC near Hwy 55 & High House RD. Note - will consider trades, let me know.
See http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/5954341006.html for pictures.GoodStarts, runs, and drives. Tons of power and torque.
New tires on 17” turbo twist (replica) wheels
Newly recovered seats - looks great!
New windshield
Body electricals work fine - sunroof, lights, power seats, power windows, etc
Plenty of records from prior owners replacing a lot of stuff
Replaced front brake calipers
BadGiant dent on the front right fender
Couple of other dents and paint flaws
Not registered or inspected
Manual brakes and steering (because conversion)
Exhaust manifolds still leak a bit
There’s a bit of a misfire or something going on at small throttle openings.
Loose / vibration in front end
Some rubber moldings (door seals, etc) are cracking and in need of replacement
Paint’s a little chalky but polishes up nicely
Dashboard is cracked
Broken front lower air dam
Dents in driver’s side door
No AC (because conversion)
Some clutch chatter (clears up when driven)
Probably a bunch of other odds and ends I'm forgetting
