Well, my odd body has defeated me again in regard to buying a car. Just went and looked at a unicorn car. '04 e46 330 coupe, ZHP, 6 speed, black cube trim, alcantara cloth and no sunroof. I didn't fit in it with a helmet, so I unfortunately walked away. It's up at Chips place at atlantic auto. Worth looking at. It's not on the web site yet.

You want me to post the long list of things the car will need right away...it'll make you feel better (wait, I think that might be whiskey).

lol.... I actually don't think this car needs anything right now. It comes with a binder of everything done to it. Owner was like you, enthusiast owned, kept the car nice and up to date with any maintenance needs. I truly hated to walk away from this one, but I'm going to keep a car where I can wear a helmet in it, and while I was close in this one, I just wasn't comfortable in it. I played this game in my e36 for a while and despised the seating position...

It will entertain me at least Chuck, so by all means, go ahead.

...have to see that binder, but imo the E46 is a much needier platform than the E90 with a particular affinity for thrust bushings, rtabs, window regulators, and cooling system parts. At that mileage it's likely is close to needing a DISA valve and will likely need an oil filter housing gasket replacement soon if not already done. That said, it sounds like it could be a nicely kept one with reasonably low mileage for its age.

I know one about about a ZHP, my daughter's car (2003, sedan, 6MT, no sunroof) with Ground Control coilovers and camber plates, front and rear Turner motorsport sway bars, 8.5"/255s all around is an incredible blast to drive. Super connected steering (zhp rack), great communication through the wheel and seat, really nicely balanced -- all coupled with a firm but completely supple ride on the street. She can't find anything she'd rather buy/own that's new other than mentioning the Focus RS a few times...

did you have to upgrade the brakes & ducting for HPDE?

I built a spreadsheet on what it takes to keep my E82 from going into limp mode on the track, it's as much as buying an E46 M3

Can you not put a seat in it or do a foam ectomy like the Miata guys do to get under a roll bar?

I'm sure I could, but I'd hate to mess with those seats since the alcantara interior is a bit rare and this was in good shape. I've found once you lower the seat, it monkeys with everything else like the center console and arm rest heights. The other issue I'm finding is as I'm getting older, modding cars is failing out of favor with me as I can see spending money on other stuff like travel and projects in the back yard I've wanted to do for years. Still toying with the idea of selling the mustang come the spring, but have no clue what I would replace it with. I guess one thing with the mustang is I'm tired of reading all the BS on the forums; what rims should I get, what spoiler looks good on my car, what stereo should I buy... I'm done with all the crap from the boy racer crowd.

Damn, I'm turning into a old curmudgeon.

Don't get me wrong, I'll always be a car fan, but the older I get, I'm leaning towards a newer and nicer ride, but no idea what a replacement autox car would be right now. So many choices going on right now, but I do know for '17 I have to try and pay off most of the new workshop I've built...

It's in Durham. Found out the car sold first thing this morning. Chip said there was a woman waiting on the lot before he arrived this morning. She bought it on the spot....
