I'm posting this for some good friends that just moved from Hawaii and need transportation. The little ones are four years old and less than one, so kid friendly options are the only route. My only guess would be a van and a sedan or wagon of some sort to do the job.

Anyhow, if you have or see anything interesting shoot it to me. Thanks!

My brother has 3 kids and they've been kicking around in a Honda Odyssey van for years. Purchased new and now has over a 100k on it and from I understand has been very reliable and durable.

Quick search on cargurus and it looks like you can get them for 20 only a couple years old with fairly low mileage.

Was that 20k budget for 2 cars total or each? Guessing total, looks like even an odyssey can still be had for that if they're ok with around 100k miles.

missed that detail. So we need to mix/match 2 cars for 20k. Do both cars need to be kid friendly?

A Chrysler minivan from 2010 or so and then a sedan like a Mazda 6 or Accord or Camry maybe

Moving FROM Hawaii? Really? That has to be the most upsetting move ever! I'm sitting here trying to figure out ways to GET to Hawaii.

Best of luck in your search. I think a Mazda 5 would be a great choice for a young family. The difference could then be spent on something like a Mazda 3 or camry/accord as mentioned earlier. If Odyssey, go for 2011 as the prior gen had sketchy transmission issues. At least, our 2005 did. Any newer and it gets over the price range

as for a DD, I had a great time w/ the mazda 3 hatch. Fun to drive, plenty of room and should be able to find a nice one for ~$5k. That should leave $15k for the serious people mover.

Yep, basically two $10k cars give or take capable of shuttling mom, dad, and two kids under 5.

I didn't even think about the Mazda 3. Good call on that!
