Garage tire rack for 2 sets of wheels $50

Note that the rack is only HALF of what is pictured below, I reduced it in size from a few years ago and never took a picture. It's 4' wide and maybe 5' tall for 2 sets of wheels and tires, one over the other. Mounts to studs on a standard 16"OC wall. Includes long lag bolts so it's fine to put up over sheetrock. Works great, I'm just reorganizing my garage and don't have lots of loose wheels anymore. Works great up to a 255 wide wheel (had 255-40-17 R1's on it once), maybe more.

This is tempting, rough guess at the height? I have 2 stacks of tires currently sitting in my rapidly shrinking garage.

I'll measure later but I'm pretty sure the vertical part that goes on the wall is about 5' high. You could probably trim the bottom 12" off, it's overkill.

Mike what's the structure made from? The cross bars look like EMT? I need to build something similar, but longer, not taller. Trying to lift 18" wheels with 295 tires is too much for my old weak-a$$.

It's garage door angle brackets, 1" electrical conduit, porch swing chains, and u-bolts to bolt the conduit to the angle iron. Not hard to make yourself, just time consuming. If I had to do it again I wouldn't change anything, it works great. Except for the angle iron being stupid expensive I'm sure it could be replicated for $50ish for anyone who wants to DIY.

My supports would be roughly 60" apart vs. your 48" as pictured. I wonder if the 1" EMT would make it that far w/o too much deflection?

Yeah at that span I'd go with something stiffer. Might even consider adding some triangulation under the tubes.

My last design (I planned this before I built the new shop) was using 1-3/8" dia chain-link fence posts. I think that will make the 60" span w/o any trouble since it has a larger cross-section and more wall thickness.
