ALL proceeds from this event will benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research. For tax purposes, we recommend bringing a check to make out to the V Foundation for the raffles and associated betting that has been going on on the THSCC forums as well as any other desired donation to the charity.
Purchases of "dead bird" lunch tickets, t-shirts, and driver registration being made by checks should be made out to THSCC. If you plan to pay for anything with cash, please have small bills -- unless you're not expecting change.
We will be selling $5 tickets for a 50/50 raffle during registration (maximum 20 tickets), and will draw for the raffle before the trophies are awarded. Also, we have a lot of raffle items available (including a free set of tires and a set of wheels donated by Discount Tire). Tickets for those items will also be $5, also with a maximum of 20 being sold per person. You must be present (and a competitor in the event) to win!
The myth, the man, the legend himself, Bowie Gray Sr., will again be grilling his famous "dead birds". Bowie needs a couple of volunteers to assist with plating the food as well as taking his trusty assistant chef, Marvin Bynum, on fun runs. Lunch tickets will be $5 and sold during event registration.
Event t-shirts designed by David Spratte will also be sold during event registration; $10 for short sleeves, $15 for long sleeves.
Last year we raised over $6500 for the charity, and 100% of that amount goes straight to cancer research. That's right, the V Foundation will take zero administrative fees off of the top of any check made out to them! We are already on track to crush last year's total donation, so thanks in advance for your support!
We are planning on doing either 4 or 5 runs with fun runs at the end. This will not be the same course as we will run on Saturday for the non-points event!
General info:
- If this is your first event, please feel free to ask questions! Everybody has had a first time and this can be a little overwhelming. There will be a novice walk-through right before the drivers' meeting that will help things come together, so you won't want to miss it!
- Be alert! Drive slowly in pits and grid and watch out for people, kids, dogs, Feinbergs, and cars backing into pit/grid spaces.
- Be alert! When you finish your runs, whoa it down and get away from the finish line. Another driver will be barreling through there right after you! If you have a cone stuck under your car, pull away from the finish area and we will help you remove it. We are willing to risk losing a cone to avoid metal-to-metal contact.
- No wandering; stay within the general area of the autocross. It is tempting to look at the wrecks, but please avoid them. Also, please respect the motorcycle school riders and stay off of their coned-off area. And at the far end, don't stray down the embankment; there be angry spork-wielding pirates there.
- Everyone signs the waiver form. Wear the arm band on YOUR LEFT WRIST ONLY -- not your right wrist, nor your belt loop, nor the back of your hat. The starter will want to see your arm band during the start of the day. Without the arm band, you AND your participant passenger will not be allowed to run.
- Novice passengers are NOT allowed to ride with other novice drivers.
- You should read "You Outta Know About..." on the website.
- Take your trash with you. We MUST leave a clean site or we lose
site privileges. Mr. T pities the fool who leaves trash on a site.
- Grilled chicken sandwiches will be provided on-site on Sunday (for a small fee); additionally a Subway, a Hardees, and a Food Lion are not far from the site. Please see the rule above for trash maintenance and don't be a sucka!
Car Tech:
- Your car must have legible numbers and class letters to be released from grid. If you don't already have magnetics, you should download and print 2 sets of your class and your numbers from the website. If you're using paper class/numbers, you should also bring masking tape to affix these to both sides of your car.
- Your car must be teched BEFORE the drivers' meeting.
- To pass tech, you must:
- Clean out any loose items in your car (this includes cell phones, iPods, cables, garage door openers, loose change, and anything else that could fly around).
- The battery must be properly secured.
- If your floor mats are not physically attached to carpet, they will have to be removed. We don't want the floor mat to bunch up under the brake or gas pedals.
- Hubcaps and center caps on wheels should be removed. If your hubcaps mount to the wheel and are held in place by the lug nuts, then they can stay on; otherwise they should be removed.
- It is your responsibility to:
- Check basic fluids such as oil, coolant, and brake.
- IMPORTANT: Make sure you tighten the lug nuts to your manufacturer's recommended torque specification. If you're changing your tires, it's a good idea to torque them all, and then torque them all a 2nd time. It's easy to get distracted and forget a few lug nuts -- or an entire wheel!
- Make sure you have no active leaks from your engine, radiator, transmission, or differential. Oil and coolant on the course is a bad thing.
- Check tire pressure. If you don't know what to set it to, ask ASAP.
- You WILL experience greater than normal tire wear. Your tires MUST be serviceable, meaning they have appropriate tread, no cord showing, etc.
- If you plan on running all year long with THSCC (and we hope that you are), now would be a good time to have your car teched for the year. Print out this form and bring it to the event. This day has the potential to be busy, so have your car ready and go to the tech area early. This is very popular during the first 3 events for the year.
We look forward to seeing you at this event!
